An architect from the lush town of Irinjalakuda in Thrissur, whose intricate brushwork bridges the classical grandeur of Kerala mural art with the textures of contemporary life — evoking joy, wonder, and the timeless stories of the south.
Nandu S Kumar grew up in Irinjalakuda — a lush, quaint town nestled in the Thrissur district of Kerala, where the air carries the scent of rain-soaked earth and temple bells echo through canopied streets. That landscape, steeped in ritual, colour, and the classical arts of the south, became the quiet foundation of everything she would go on to create.
An architect by training and an artist by deep, abiding passion, Nandu holds a B.Arch from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology and went on to pursue her BEM from the School of Planning & Architecture, Delhi — building a design vocabulary shaped equally by structural rigour and aesthetic sensitivity.
Professionally, she has worked across Architecture and Project Management, bringing the same precision she applies to built space to the orchestration of complex creative endeavours. It is a discipline that sharpens the eye and steadies the hand — qualities that translate beautifully to the demanding art she practises.
Nandu's paintings draw from the majestic tradition of Kerala mural art — one of India's oldest and most celebrated classical folk forms, distinguished by its mythological narratives, vibrant ochres and earthy reds, and its extraordinary intricacy of detail. Her work does not merely replicate this tradition; it converses with it, weaving ancient imagery into the objects of daily life — canvas bags and original paintings that carry the warmth and wonder of the south wherever they travel.
